What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique works on a principle; that the way we use our minds and bodies as a whole affects the way we function in terms of health and happiness. Very few human beings use themselves well, especially with the pressures of modern-day life. Consequently, many people suffer from pain or underperformance in their own particular skills. The Alexander Technique is a practical and problem-solving method of re-educating the way we use ourselves. It is a marvellous tool for making small, safe, subtle changes that lead to exponential improvement in terms of our comfort and quality of life.
The approach is unique and has long term benefits. The hands-on work is calming and you learn to use your body in a smooth, skilful and efficient way. It is quite normal to find immediate improvement in your stability, pain, breathing and ease of movement. Over time your posture, gait and general health improve, and chronic pains subside. Skills of awareness and control build your confidence and improve your quality of life. The Society of Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) regulates the profession and STAT registered teachers complete a three year, full-time training. |
